Let’s check in with the body and see what’s going on.
Welp at times it feels like everything hurts but let’s zoom in and see what’s going on.
Head and Neck
I met with a neurologist last week around some lingering headaches I have been experiencing. Turns out I have migraines. If you had that on your bingo card hurry and check you might have won. So I have started a monthly self-injection of Ajovy, which I can only imagine is anchovy and Bon Jovi based. For onset I also have Sumatriptan which is probably a sumo based turkey chemical that makes you tired. I have injected the Ajovy once and used the Sumatriptan as well. Let me say the latter felt like I was dizzy, nauseous and was going to pass out- so it’s a distraction maybe.
Radiation is complete on my neck (but not entirely). My neck pain is considerably better but not entirely. Still I’ll take this over what it was before. In its place now is a persistent sore throat that feels as if I’m swallowing a baseball. Hopefully though this should subside soon.
I will have a scan of my brain and pituitary gland at the end of the month. This is to see if anything specific is causing these migraines, anything is amiss and to monitor an existing benign tumor on my pituitary gland.
Torso
I have some shoulder joint pain at times but I think this is a combination of compensating for the neck in ways and the accelerated aging of my body- but this is minor. I’d say one of the larger issues is bathroom “fun.” Let’s just say pain pills cause certain things to be….
Hips and Legs
My right hip pain is also considerably better and if anything, at times, is slightly sore feeling but very tolerable. Radiation is scheduled to wrap up Wednesday on my right hip. But alas, I love radiation so much that I wanted more sessions so I decided to add my left pubic bone (insert joke here). Last week it started to feel like a grinding pain where my left leg met my hip. It was almost to the point of needing a cane but luckily not, so we will fire the laser and hope for the best.
The pain in the hips causes me to walk a little slower but luckily for now that’s it. I am not going to spiral (this second) and imagine what could happen.
So for now I continue on with radiation for another week and a half or so. I thought fatigue was bad before but man this radiation fatigue is rough. I just want to sleep and sleep some more.
That is all for now. Off to get radiated.

Joe- I got this cool ice pack head wrap for headaches and what about a daily magnesium oxide for migraine prevention? Might be worth an ask (magnesium can interfere with absorption of oral meds). headache sticks that have a cooling agent that you smear on… I get the double super power of being a healthcare provider with cancer. Seriously tho, it seems to me that our lovely care teams go for meds and forget all the good adjuncts that are out there. Hope you get some energy and pain-free hours.
Joe. I use miralax and magnesium tablets and Senna S all twice a day for constipation. It’s does help. Good luck
