Surgery sucks- I know, captain obvious. This is my current view:
I am currently in my awesome chair, awesomely uncomfortable. I have a giant incision across my abdomen and two small holes in my right side. I constantly feel bloated and doing normal things like eating, going to the bathroom, walking to the kitchen, and even typing this or responding to texts drains me to no end.
The good news is that this is all normal (so they say). The incision and holes will turn to scars eventually. The bloating will subside one day- anyone that has had major procedures knows the importance and fun of needing to pass gas. The energy will hopefully return sooner than the 3-6 months I have read it can take.
The hospital had its fair share of fun too. My blood pressure was high, I was extremely nauseous and clammy, I was almost at the point of dialysis, and again- having a bowel movement and passing gas was always fun.
All of this to say I am still here and very fortunate for that. Every doctor, nurse and staff member at the hospital was amazing. They cared for me day in and day out and assured my family when needed too. They were saints!
My family was amazing too. My wife and mother stayed over multiple nights to ensure I got the care I needed. My dad came up and stayed with me. My mother in law stayed all week to help with the kids which, as any parent knows, is saintly duty. And now my mom and sister are staying with us for the week to help with the kids and my neediness.
And everyone has been amazing from extended family, to friends, to work colleagues. Gifts, prayers, thoughts, donations and more. All the messages have been great to read and I truly am spoiled with support.
I can’t type much more now as I am losing steam but there is a photo below of the incision. WARNING it is not pretty so stop reading if you don’t want to see.
