Bob Costas: “Welcome to Day 1 of competition in this year’s Cancer Olympics, I’m Bob Costas and with me again this year is my pink eye from Sochi. Let’s break down our Olympic venues today with a peak at just some of the competitions we will see.”
Home
“Ah yes home- your safe place, home base and where you can rest. Sounds easy? Think again. Competitors will face off in a number of events. A few to look forward to are below.”
Stairs: A common event that many a competitor is familiar with.
Guilt Evasion: Who can maintain their calm not being able to contribute even though no one makes you feel guilty?
Meal Time: What will you eat? What can you eat? What can you make?
Hospital
“The arena that gets the most publicity, the hospital. Competitors will be very familiar with these competitions. The hospital will put our competitors through the paces- testing their physical strength as well as their mental strength. A few of our events are below.”
Repetition: How many times can you say your name and birthdate, in order without error?
Pick the Right Seat: Which seat do you pick in the waiting room? Choose wisely.
Vein Game: One stick, two stick, wrong stick, painful prick.
Public
“Public, a real potpourri of events here spanning locales, people, moods and more. Do you have the strength to survive? Let’s take a peek at some of the events we will see.”
Stare or Glare: Did that person stare at you on purpose or glare at you coincidentally?
Where to Rest: Can you choose the perfect resting spot? Weather, traffic and more play a part in this competition.
Pace the Day: Competitors have a set number of tasks- can they make it through with energy to spare? Will they complete them all?
Mind
“This is where we separate the cancer patients from, well, the cancer patients. Competitors will navigate the mental gymnasium that is cancer while trying to live a life. What are some of the things are competitors can expect?”
What to Do: Competitors are given multiple events but limited energy- what do they choose and why?
Avoid the Cliche: It could be worse, it is what it is, look on the brightside and more. How long until you utter one of these phrases?
Toxic Positivity: Think positive, you have to keep moving, you’re an inspiration and more. Can you avoid snapping through a gauntlet of toxic positivity?
“Join us next week as we review the first competition in the Home Arena. For NBC and the American Cancer Society, I’m Bob Costas, saying goodnight patients, no matter what time it is.”
