Am I the greatest walker ever? I don’t know, people might say this though.
I have been trying to up my walking from nothing to something. Today was a mile and a half. I will say that I do feel more motivated to be active now- both physically and mentally so thank you cancer for that.
I even felt like running at one point but don’t worry, I quickly suppressed that urge under the guise of “not hurting myself”- not because I hate running. . . definitely not. When we moved to the suburbs last year we were taken with the schools, the area, the house, and the space. The space has been nice. Our house backs up to farmland and we have a pretty big yard, providing for some great views.
We also have a walking path around a pond a block away that, added with the walk to and from, is exactly a mile distance. So my goal earlier this week was to complete that trip which sounds easy but given my current state feels like I’m walking 5 miles uphill both ways. Picture below for reference.
So I go on my dumb little walk Monday and it felt good so today I upped it and added an extra two blocks on top because you got to rise and grind, put in the work, or whatever the Rock’s song says. These walks are supposed to help prevent blood clots, regain energy and stamina, and are obviously good for your health.
The walk allows me to make some observations along the way. To start, the trail is paved about 10 percent- only the entrance and exit. The rest is a dirt and fine gravel mix which is great when the sky has pissed down rain for weeks. The back of the trail seems like a perfect place for some crime podcast to kick off. It is covered with trees and is hidden from the surrounding homes, so either a real cool place for a murderer to hang out or some coyotes to nab a small dog or child. Bugs- just dumb. Don’t tell me some scientific reason why we need them, they’re stupid. Just as pointless- geese. They’re the entitled “Brads” of the bird world- always loud, in the way, and confrontational. If they could tell you who their dad was they would. Then there are the ducks. No problem with ducks, they look cool and leave you alone. The only weird thing is when flying they always look like they’re rushing to the bathroom before they crap their pants.
The biggest jerk though is the red-winged blackbird. These birds look pretty but they like to dive bomb you if they think you’re getting too close. Too close to what? Who knows? I never see any nests or anything that would indicate I am infringing on their land. They’re just territorial, fake general looking, assholes.
In all seriousness, the walk is therapeutic. I generally listen to music as well although I am not too sure how relaxing Pusha T is. Almost always I am the only person out- the perks of walking when everyone is working. The weather hovers between 50-65 degrees which is perfect. And aside from the occasional ducking and dodging of those idiots with red shoulder pads- the nature backdrop is relaxing.
If you were hoping for a medical update we are still waiting on a few more things however I would be remiss if I did not mention the state of women’s rights right now. It is maddening to say the least but I recognize I am a man and I do not know the half of what women go through- which is why men should have no say in how a woman handles their own healthcare.
I won’t waste anymore time but here are some resources to direct donations to (hover over the sentence).
