How did we let Bret Michaels try and pass this off as a rhyme:
Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
I mean we really just played along that thorn, dawn, and song rhymed and didn’t question a guy that looks like this?
Anyways, it is cliché but I guess Poison’s Bret Michaels was right- every rose has its thorn. I have been journaling the last few weeks. It is a way to both get thoughts out and keep track of any symptoms, pain or side effects that may arise. One thing I noted the other day was that going from 2 weeks until surgery to “less than 2 weeks” until surgery hit me like a ton of bricks. While surgery may be the “rose” the recovery and risk is the “thorn.” I have documented pretty well how scared I am of the surgery. Not so much the dying part, but the missing out on life with my family. I will not rehash that again.
Instead, if there is anything Rock of Love’s philosopher Bret Michaels has taught me, it is that “Every night has its dawn.” The “dawn” for me will be getting some answers- I hope. I think one of the biggest anxiety inducing things about this cancer journey is the lack of concrete answers or steps we have. That is not due to trying, it is just the way this goes I guess. But, even if the outlook is grim- I’d rather know. If we know we can plan, prepare and just come to terms with it if we need to.
Anyways. . .
Since my surgery scar will basically be a Mercedes Logo without the circle across my entire abdomen, I get to sleep in a cool recliner in my office for awhile. It helps me stand, can charge my phone, has pockets, a massager and heating function- in short:
But I do need some TV and movie recommendations- preferably not comedy as I think I’ll have to avoid laughing a ton. Sorry kids, my dad jokes will have to rest for a bit. Please send over any recommendations.
Lastly, thank you everyone for the support and generosity. It means the world to me and my family during this time.
So please send those viewing recommendations in- it is much appreciated. And because I don’t quite know how to end this….

Inspired by your writing, I wrote a long comment filled with witty repartee, and when I hit “post” it told me I wasn’t logged in and deleted my comment. So now I’ll just list my recs: Money Heist on Netflix—5 season of pure enjoyment, and you won’t notice the subtitles after 2 minutes. Ted Lasso on Apple. Squid Games. The Walking Dead—it’s so dumb but I’m still entertained and we’re like 37 seasons in. Kaminsky Method. Peaky Blinders, which auto correct keeps changing to Leaky Blinders. Maybe Leaky Blinders is even better? Derry Girls, but save that for after the stitches heal, especially the crying Virgin Mary episode.
I'm having trouble sleeping and thinking about tv...and realized I meant to drop some recs but never did! Like Amber, I also loved Fargo, all the seasons were great. If you've never seen The Wire it's a must watch. It's so good, the first time (I said first) Jeff and I watched it, we called in sick to work to binge watch the entire season in 4 days. My favorite tv show of all time. I also really liked Chernobyl and...kind of related...but not... The Americans. I also love binge watching Shark Tank. Nothing like reality tv + impulse shopping to improve your mood. Rooting for you!!
